Who refers clients to RCC?We receive referrals from over 100 sources including local mental health centers, Social Services, schools, churches, family support services and private clinicians, as well as former clients and graduates from our training program. The breadth of our referral sources indicates the respect the clinic and training program have in the community. The most endearing, meaningful referrals we receive come from current or former clients of the clinic. Those endorsements mean a great deal to the student clinicians and faculty members of the Relational Counseling Center at the Denver Family Institute. How long has the clinic and training program been serving clients? The Denver Family Institute formed in 1982 as the Family Therapy Training Center of Colorado in cooperation with the University of Denver’s Graduate School of Social Work. In 2001, the name changed to the Denver Family Institute. DFI maintains an excellent cooperative relationship with the University of Denver through our Joint Training Program. We also accept graduate students from Colorado State University, Regis University, and other Universities both locally and nationally. The clinic began offering services in 1991. We are a well-established program dedicating to offering quality services to the Denver Metro Community. Will anyone know that we are coming to therapy? All information provided by you during therapy sessions is legally confidential to persons or agencies outside of therapy. We only share your information with written permission. Information provided during therapy sessions will be available to the treatment team, including other therapists at the RCC, administrative staff and therapist supervisors. There are certain situations in which your therapist is legally bound to reveal information obtained during therapy to other persons or agencies without your permission. These situations are as follows and apply to all psychotherapists, licensed or unlicensed, providing therapy services in Colorado:
If your therapist believes that you are an imminent danger to yourself. If you threaten grave bodily harm or death to another person or directly endanger the life of another. If your therapist suspects abuse or neglect of any child(ren). If your therapist is ordered to release information by a court of law.If you pose a threat to national security. How long does the therapy last? Each therapy session is approximately 50 minutes. The RCC offers an unlimited number of therapy sessions to our clients. We set no minimum or maximum number of sessions that you are required to attend. In fact, in Colorado, clients maintain the right to leave therapy at any time for any reason. Because we understand the commitments of time, finances and energy, we generally work from a brief therapy model. However, our therapists can adapt this approach for clients looking for a longer-term therapeutic relationship. How does the therapist determine what goals to work on with us?The RCC at DFI believes that families, couples and individuals should determine their own goals for therapy. We work collaboratively and openly with clients to establish a respectful, supportive relationship. Our clinicians are also willing to provide challenges and feedback to clients to help them reach their goals. How do I make an appointment? To arrange an appointment, call (303) 756-3340 or click here to make an appointment online. We will be able to answer your questions, provide further information and schedule an appointment for you with a therapist. Messages left on our answering machine are confidential and are returned promptly by one of our clinicians. Our clinicians strive to schedule initial appointments promptly after receiving a referral call. We treat all inquiries regarding clinic services with the utmost respect and confidentiality. Who are the Therapists and Supervisors?Graduate and post-graduate students enrolled at the Denver Family Institute provide therapy services. These are highly motivated students seeking additional training to specialize in offering strengths-based couples and family therapy services. Faculty of the Denver Family Institute supervises therapists. Each of these supervisors is a licensed family therapist holding approved supervisory status in the American Association of Marriage and Family Therapy.
