Information: Instructor for Couples I. For over fifteen years, Barbara has worked in private practice in the Denver/Broomfield/Westminster area, treating married and partnered couples, as well as individuals of varied ages facing a variety of relationship challenges. Barbara graduated cum laude with a Bachelor’s Degree in Psychology (1985), followed by a Master’s Degree in Education/Counseling (1987), both from the University of Colorado in Boulder. After completing her advanced training at the Colorado Institute for Marriage and Family Therapy in Boulder, she was invited onto the clinical staff and successfully worked at the Institute until establishing a separate practice. From 1993 to 1998, Barbara served a Governor-appointed position on the Colorado State Board of Marriage and Family Therapist Examiners. In 2000, she was awarded “Therapist of the Year” by the Colorado Association for Marriage and Family Therapy (CAMFT), recognizing both ability and commitment to serve the field of marriage and family therapy. Barbara was the editor of the newsletter for CAMFT and chairperson of the Publications Committee from 1990 to 2005. She is a Clinical Member of AAMFT and credentialed as an EMDR practitioner. Barbara is proud to be a certified Disaster Mental Health Response Team Member for the American Red Cross. In that role, she responded to disasters in the U.S. from September 11, 2001 through the Katrina disaster of 2005, especially honored to serve a two-week assignment in New York City at the Family Assistance Center immediately following September 11. Barbara was the featured therapist in the January 1997 issue of Ladies’ Home Journal’s column "Can This Marriage Be Saved?" and then featured again in the follow-up column, "Was This Marriage Saved?" in the November 2003 issue. Complementing her professional experience and credentials is her life experience of working with her husband of 37 years, designing their family home and raising two sons.
